PDFLane – PDF Editor & Scanner

Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: October 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how PDFLane (the “App”), provided by Kai Li (“we,” “us,” or “our”), handles information. It applies to the iOS App with bundle identifier com.pdflane.scanner.editor and to this legal website.

Document privacy at a glance: documents, scans, imported images, OCR text, signatures, passwords, and generated files are processed and stored on your device. We do not upload their contents to our servers. A file leaves the App only when you choose a system service or third-party destination, such as iCloud download or the iOS share sheet.

1. Information we process

CategoryExamples and purposeWhere it is processed
Documents and user contentScans, PDFs, imported images and office files, OCR text, signatures, form entries, watermarks and passwords used to provide requested editing and conversion features. On your device. We do not receive document contents.
App activity and diagnosticsFeature category, save/conversion outcome, advertising placement outcome, app version, device/OS class, performance and crash information. Our custom analytics do not include filenames, file paths, document content, OCR text, search terms, signatures, or passwords.Processed by Firebase Analytics and, where enabled in the installed version, Firebase Crashlytics.
Advertising dataIf the installed version displays ads: device and app identifiers, IP-derived approximate location, ad interactions, diagnostics, fraud-prevention signals, and the Apple advertising identifier (IDFA) only when applicable permission has been granted.Processed by the advertising provider, such as Google Mobile Ads, subject to consent and device settings.
Website connection dataIP address, browser/device information, requested URL and timestamps needed to deliver and protect these pages.Processed in standard hosting/CDN logs by our hosting provider. This website itself uses no analytics scripts or advertising cookies.

2. Device permissions

Camera permission is used only when you choose to scan a paper document. Photo and file selection use Apple system pickers where available. You can review or revoke permissions in iOS Settings. Revoking a permission may disable the related feature.

3. Analytics, crash reporting and attribution

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand feature use, stability and completion rates. We may use Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash stacks, app state, app version, device model and operating-system information needed to diagnose failures. Analytics breadcrumbs may be associated with a crash report. We use allowlisted event names and coarse categories rather than document names or content.

If an advertising-enabled version is used, advertising measurement may attribute an install or action to an advertising campaign. Cross-app tracking and access to IDFA are requested through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework where required. Refusing tracking does not prevent you from using the App; contextual or limited ads may still be shown.

4. When information is shared

We do not sell your documents or personal information. Limited information may be processed by:

When you choose a destination from Apple’s share sheet, that destination’s privacy practices apply. We do not control the recipient you select.

5. Legal bases and international processing

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process information to provide features you request, for our legitimate interests in security and product reliability, with consent for optional analytics/advertising where required, and to comply with law. Service providers may process information in countries other than yours using contractual and legal safeguards.

6. Retention

Local files remain on your device until you delete them or remove the App, subject to your device backups. Analytics and diagnostic information is retained according to our provider settings and only as long as needed for the purposes described above. Crash reports are generally retained by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days. Aggregated or de-identified statistics may be kept longer where they no longer identify an individual.

7. Your choices and rights

Because we do not require an account and custom events exclude document identity, we may be unable to associate a particular analytics record with you. We will explain this if it affects a request.

8. Children

PDFLane is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request a child’s name, contact details, or document content. Advertising-enabled versions use available age/privacy controls. If you believe a child supplied personal information to us, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Security

We use iOS application sandboxing, data minimization, access controls and encrypted network transport provided by our service providers. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep device access controls enabled and export important documents before deleting the App.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy when features, providers or laws change. We will publish the revised version here and update the date above. Material changes will be communicated in the App or through another appropriate method when required.
